Current Project: Space Cowboy EP

Space Cowboy is my upcoming concept EP inspired by anime such as Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star as well as old western films and classic sci-fi novels. The album is self produced and consists of primarily lofi beats that give off both a spacey and western atmosphere. Lyrically, the album puts forth a loose narrative about an outlaw over the course of a day on Mars and in its orbit. The lyrics dive into his philosophies and views of the Universe through conversation and introspective monologue, all ripe with imagery, metaphor, and assonance.

The album is fairly short, standing at about 6-7 tracks (I wrote a new track recently that I am debating including). I’ve been working on it off and on for a few years now. The first track, Space Cowboy, I wrote back in 2019, and since then, everything else has been slowly coming together. The concept is something I’ve wanted to attempt for even longer, having always admired the Deltron 3030 album, and also being a fan of space western anime and classic sci-fi novels.

Progress-wise, I’ve written all of my lyrics. I’ve recorded all but 1 track, and I’ve mixed all but one of the tracks that I’ve recorded. In other words, I am nearing the finish line. Unfortunately the work that remains are the hardest tracks on the album to get “right”. I’ve been wrestling with them for awhile now, and whenever a track doesn’t seem to be coming together “naturally”, motivation wanes. Alas, I’ve been forcing myself to work on it at LEAST once every couple of weeks, often more than that. My goal was to release the album by the end of March, but I am starting to doubt whether or not that is realistic. If not, maybe I will shoot for the classic 4/20 release, ha!

Anyways, I don’t want to spoil the experience of the album, so I’m being intentionally vague on the more interesting details. I will say though, that from a technical stand point, I am really cranking up the effort level compared to my previous works. I’m honestly really in love with the tracks I’ve done so far, and I’m really excited to share them with the world. I feel like I really hit the nail on the head when it comes to conceptualizing the vibe that I set out to build.

Peace,
